Joe O'Conner (Birmingham, MI)

The client
Joe O'Conner has written his first children's book, with plans for several more. His son, Jeremiah, was the inspiration for the Jeremiah Discovers series.

The idea
The first print run of Jeremiah Discovers was distributed to local stores, including Borders books. Part of the promotional plan involves a website, with the address printed right on the cover. MS Datastep was hired to build an informational site about the book that allows comments and questions from customers or potential publishers. It's also needed that flexibility to expand with later books.

Henry Payne, is a nationally acclaimed illustrator and good friend of Joe's. He collaborated with Mr. O'Conner to develop the overall look of Jeremiah Discovers series. The website needed to reflect that whimsical look, but with a professional flair that would attract publishers.

The step up

Because MS Datastep offers graphic design services; we are able to fill the needs of this purely informational website in a short time frame, and on budget.

The busy client gave us freedom to be creative with the site. We were given the general goal and a demo copy of the book and took it from there. For the text, we took some from the book, but most of the site was written by MS Datastep staff. Additional custom illustrations were developed for the navigation, in keeping with this look.

The contact form is used quite frequently by readers, providing pleasant feedback and idea's for new book topics. We've even gotten requests from teachers for multiple copies to use in their classroom. National publishers have expressed interest in it as well. Jeremiah Discovers is on its way to being a hit series, and we are proud to have lent a hand.
